BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Andrew’s Church, Althorne

Motto reads: "Sunny Hours". Shows 4am to 8pm in 30,15 and 5 mins. Numerals read from outside. Uses XII and IIII. 8-point compass rose in centre of dial, labelled to NW etc. Remains of gnomon base still present. Noon gap present. Date of 1746 on dialplate may not be correct. Set on a four leaf clover section straight sided stone pillar carved to look like a tree trunk. Memorial to three sons who died, two in WWI and one in Shackleton’s adventure of 1914-15. Located near Church Porch.
