BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Town Centre, Peebles

4 declining octagonal faces. Solid gnomons; upright Arabic numerals; hour lines only. Wrought ironwork on top bearing a weathervane with date 1622 - date on dial is 1699. On a very narrow cylindrical column, said to be 15th century, on a recent octagonal base which in turn stands on a broad octagonal base, about 15 ft high overall. Inscription on the base states that the column and base were taken down and re-erected in 1965. Ref: A R Somerville, Proc Soc Antiq Scot, 117, 1987, "The Ancient Sundials of Scotland", p58 (E3).
