BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

20 West End, Hurworth

One of three dials in this area. It is set into the brickwork between two upper windows, above the front door. It has radially oriented numerals, and hour lines to a small semicircle around the gnomon root, with half and quarter hour marks in a narrow band inside the hours circle, all very carefully made. Strongly curled ’S’ support to blade gnomon with a deep cut nodus, and declination lines can still just be seen. Around the top ’17 C: Hunter. 72’, and just below ’Latitude 54 34’. It is thought that Hunter was a pupil of the Hurworth mathematician and dialist William Emerson (1701-1782).
