BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
In the public gardens near the bus station can be found this cube dial each face of which is 300mm square. It is dated 1970 but could easily be mistaken for something much older. It is mounted on a cylindrical column on a square base. The South face shows the hours 6am to 6pm divided into halves and quarters and has the inscription, "Sunny Hours". The West face shows 1pm to 8pm in hours while the East face has 4am to 11am also in hours. There is no dial on the North face which simply carries the motto, "Let others tell of storms and showers I’ll only count your sunny hours". All faces are labelled South, East etc.
