BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
The open site enjoyed by this dial on the church porch is marred by an intrusive electric lamp which casts its own shadow on the dial plate. It is quite ornate but has suffered damage which has been repaired by patching in new pieces of slate and engraving the numerals afresh. The punning motto, ’Wee shall Die all’ appears yet again. There is floral decoration in the arch and a flower blooms beneath the gnomon root. The keystone of the arch immediately below the dial carries the initials J C and the date 1724 but is not clear whether this refers to the dial or the porch.
