BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Mary’s Church, Maiden Newton

The dial is on the south face of the tower, about 9m above ground level. It shows VI - XII - IIII - V in half hours. The rusty gnomon has one straight support and the substyle line is at about 10:45. A motto across the top is now faint but it reads: ’VT VMBRA SIC VITA’ (As the shadow so is Life), followed by ’I*W* S:T:D ??’ . Below, centred across the root of the gnomon, is the date ’1630’.
