BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Cambridgeshire

This is a very fine horizontal dial which was moved to its present site in 1959. It is mounted on an ornate bulbous stone pedestal on a square plinth; 1,300 mm high. The pedestal leans to the south by 2 deg 5 min. The hours are shown from 4am to 8pm with divisions at 30, 15, 7.5, 5 and I minute intervals. The hours are numbered in Roman numerals and every tenth minute mark is numbered in Arabic numerals. There is a noon gap to allow for the 15 mm gnomon. There is an equation of time (Aequation of Natural Days) circle with daily divisions. This is based on the Watch faster/ slower convention. Marked with ’S’ at 31 Jan and 15/16 July. These would have been the points with the highest ’Slow’ values under the ’old’ (Julian) calendar. There is a 16-point compass rose and also an azimuth circle in degrees numbered in 10s. On the south side is the coat of arms of the Godolphin family. The latitude is shown as 52 deg 15 min. The gnomon has an elegant curved back and is reinforced with two low side supports.
