BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Cromwell Mews, Helpston

The dial is set in the south-facing gable end of the building and is clearly visible from the roadway. Possibly the cottage of John Clare, the poet, but confirmation requested. The hours, which are marked with upright Roman numerals, run from 6am to 5pm with half hour markings. Noon is XII and 4pm IIII. The simple bar gnomon has a single short strut supporter. Another stone set in the wall is inscribed ’The sundial 1933’
