BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Parish Church of St Mildred, Tenterden

This important dial is positioned above the porch, mounted on two corbels and surmounted by a pediment which holds the date. The motto along the upper edge of the dial reads ’Tempus Fugit’. Trapezoidal in form, with declination lines and a central vertical noon declination scale in steps of one degree, in a cartouche. The seven declination lines are marked by zodiac symbols. The Gemini/Leo line crosses at 19 degs when 20 would appear to be correct. Rod gnomon with ring and bar noduses, and ’S’ scrolled strip metal supporter. A semi-circular time scale around the gnomon root shows hours only, in Arabic numerals. Outside is a ring that shows quarters. Inside the time ring is a ring with remaining text ’fecit’, originally ’John Adams fecit Tenterden’.
