BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Christ Church (1), Oxford

On the creamy stone south wall of the Killcanon building at the south-west corner of Peckwater Quad is a large vertical dial declining 14° east, probably dating from the early 1800s. It is a plain functional dial painted in black on a white background. A repainting of 1916 is recorded and it was restored most recently in 1990. It shows the hours VII - IV with full hour lines and short half- and quarter-hour ticks. The very narrow bar gnomon with two spread-legged rod supports has its root above and outside the rectangular chapter ring. A preliminary design in the college archives (Maps Ch:Ch: 6) suggests that the dial was designed by or for Dr Phineas Pett who was a Canon of the college from 1815 until his death in 1830. Ref: See Report 12264 for the preliminary design.
