BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
The dial is on the north side of the road. It was restored in 2008 and is now a shadow of its former self, having lost the striking raised yellow lettered mottoes shown in our final photograph.
The dial is mounted in a pedimented stone back and frame and has gold filled lines and numerals. It uses upright numerals VII - XII - IIII - VI in quarter and half hours, the inward pointing half hour lines having lozenge end markers and the hour lines cutting through the numerals. The elaborately scrolled gnomon is externally fitted and has a one-sided brace.
Now ’Sundial Chiropractic Clinic’.
The original mottoes read: ’Our Days on Earth are but a shadow / and there is none abiding’ and ’UT HORA PRAETERITA / SIC FUGIT VITA’ and were formed from separate surface mounted yellow lettering.
