BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial House, Lewes

Recently restored (as at Jan 2009). The date 1824 is in the low triangular top of the dial plate, and below that is: ’Nosce teipsum’ (for ’Nosce te ipsum’, ’Know thyself’, the motto of the Istead family). Upright hour numerals VII - XII - IIII - V, divided to half & quarter hours. Black-shadowed gold text on a slate-blue ground. Ref: Gatty 1900, motto no 827.
