BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St John’s Church, Stowford

There are three Stowfords in Devon and this is the one at Map Reference SX 433870. An ugly electric lamp mars the setting of this dial on the porch. It rests on a stone corbel and three sides of the slate have dog-tooth borders. Unusually the dial is dated to the month as the neatly engraved "November 1770" across the top tells us. It shows 6am to 6pm in half and quarter hours. Full length hour lines. The gnomon has been painted white but appears to be the same one which Mrs Crowley drew in 1953. The dial measures 300mmw x 450mmh.
