BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Budeaux’s Church, St Budeaux

The dimensions of this stone dial over the porch (760mmw x 450mmh) are close to the Golden Mean which gives it an attractive appearance. As well as showing us the time of day from VI -VI, divided into halves and quarters, it can also tell us the time of year. Inside the chapter ring are the signs of the zodiac at the ends of declination lines. An earlier gnomon would have had a notch or nodus on it, the shadow of which would move among these lines at different times of the year: the present gnomon lacks this. The motto across ther top reads, "Ex hoc momento Pendet ãternitas" (On this moment hangs eternity).
