BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Mount Edgcumbe House, Torpoint

The dial is in the Earl’s Garden, at the side of the house. It is described in its Grade II listing as mid 19th century. There is a 16-point compass rose labelled to NNE etc, and an anti-clockwise EOT scale with Watch Faster, Watch Slower. Hours are IIII - XII - IIII - VIII, read from the outside, with a noon gap and divided to 30, 15, 5 and 1 minute. The dial is inscribed ’LANCASTER / DEVONPORT’ and has a simple unpierced gnomon with short quarter-elliptical supports. It stands on a limestone baluster with twisting flutes, with acanthus leaves at the base, 1210 high, set on three square steps.
