BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Hereford & Worcester

To the South of the church is a brass horizontal dial worthy of our attention. It shows the hours IIII - VIII (using XII for noon) divided into halves quarters and intervals of 10, 7 1/2, 5 and 1 minutes, the single minutes being numbered in Arabic tens. There is a split noon line. In the centre is a 16-point compass rose with decorations on alternate points. The gnomon is set at 53°. There are mottoes which read, "Learn from the Shadow on the dial how quick our hours onward move. Be mindful in this state of tryal ev’ry moment to improve". "Nascimur atq; statim cippo stat nomen inane. Gnomonis ut; vitae praeterit umbra cito". [We are born and at once a name stands on an empty pillar; The shadow of life rushes quickly as does that of the gnomon].The dial measures 384mm diameter and carries a partial date 179x and the maker’s name, Duppa Jenkins, about whom nothing is known. It is mounted on a 370 diameter pedestal 1310h with capital 412mm diameter.
