BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

There is some controversy as to the material of which this dial is made. Some say slate, but Burge notes ’? Wood’ and adds that it is surrounded by a metal strip. It is mounted on the South wall of the nave. What was originally to be seen in the arch of the dial is anybody’s guess and the first line of the motto has almost disappeared, the most likely reading being ’Transit hora xxxx mora’ possibly ’. . . sine mora’. The second line is clear, ’Sic transit gloria mundi’, from Thomas à Kempis, Imitatio Christi, Ch 3 ¶6, so the whole may have been intended as ’The hours pass without delay, and so passes the glory of the world’. The dial is dated 1732 and was made by Andrew Curnow of Towednack. It shows the hours VII to VI divided down to periods of 5 minutes. Ref: Mrs Gatty Book of Sundials No 1172.
