BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
The slate dial on the porch declines East but is also canted to the West. When Mrs Crowley drew it in 1953 she noted ’Not in original position’ which would explain the apparent anomaly. She did not tell us the dial’s former site. It is tall and narrow (500mmh x 300mmw) and bears the date 1823. The hours are divided into halves by decorated lines, and into quarters. There is a sun at the root of the gnomon and decorative features in the two lower corners.
