BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Sts Peter & Paul Church, Ermington

There is some damage to the edges of this slate dial dial on the porch but it has otherwise survived the years since 1766, when it was made, quite well. The curved top contains a sun face and the date. Below this is the motto, "Cito Pede Praeterit Aetas" (Time goes by with swift foot), but the engraver has failed to set out his lettering properly (a common fault) so that the last two letters are squeezed into what shoud be a blank margin. The space below the gnomon root is occupied by a coat of arms and below it is the latitude 50° 27’. The dial shows VI - VI in half and quarter hours. Uses XII and IIII. Numerals read from below. The gnomon has an S-shaped supporter. On her 1958 drawing Mrs Crowley notes that Frederick Burgess’s "English Church Memorials" states that the dial was made by J.Poleman. It measures 460mmw x 610mmh.
