BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Michael’s Church, East Buckland

The dial here was made by Thomas Berry who, with his father before him, made what are certainly the finest dials in the county. It is on the church porch and shows characteristics by which the Berry family dials can be recognised. In the top corners were winged heads of cherubs though the one on the left side is now missing. In small letters across the top is inscribed T.Berry fecit. and below that the motto, "Tempus Fugit Mors Venit" (Time flies Death comes) following the tradition of depressing everybody except the sun face from which the gnomon springs. The date 1819 is also shown. The hours VI - VI are divided into halves by lines each bearing a fleur de lys, and into quarters. There are also declination lines labelled with their zodiacal signs so that we can not only tell the time of day but the time of year as well. The dial measures 530mmh x 380pmmw.
