BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
A sundial of painted wood will need regular attention to keep it in good condition and this one on the wall of the South aisle has been well cared for since it was erected there in 1818. It has numerals showing the hours VI - V but there are no hour lines or subdivisions. Were they lost at a previous repainting? The churchwardens Wm. Norrish and Elias Tremlett have their names at the bottom together with the date. A sun semicircle surrounds the root of the iron gnomon. The dial measures 600w x 750h.
NOTE. There may be some confusion with SRN 5023 at Morchard Bishop, some 8km NW of Sandford. The dial descriptions are almost identical. More information requested.
