BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Kent

The dial was in the churchyard near porch, and badly vandalised. It used to have an arched gnomon supporter secured into the capital of the pedestal. This with the gnomon has been ripped out and the inset dial plate is raised and torn for 1 inch at the South edge. Capital is damaged at the supporter corners. Curious plate over where gnomon has been, extra holes and brazing marks suggest a previous repair. Divided noon line. Arrow heads mark half hours. 3 time scales show 5,15,30 mins; half hours; 15 and 30 mins. Inside is a compass marking N,S,E,W and half points. Vicar confirms (2000) that gnomon is saved though support is not. Each edge of capital has a single hole in the centre. Shows 4am to 8pm in 5 mins. Pedestal is cylindrical shaft with ’bowl’ shaped base thought to be by Inigo Jones.
