BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Christ Church, Marton-cum-Grafton

The dial on the South wall (vestry chimney) has across the top ’W : B 1700’, for the Rev W Buck, vicar of the original church of St Mary. Below a motto reads: "Floreat Ecclesia" (May the Church flourish). The solid Gnomon is pierced to form letters: ’C / XIV / I R L’. Shows 6am to 6pm in half hours. Gatty says that the dial bore the initials of Rev W Buck, Vicar in 1700, and the copper gnomon, installed in 1873 by J R Lunn, then vicar, was pierced with his initials and the Sunday letter and Golden Number for the year of re-building. In fact the C and xiv refer to 1875, the year of consecration. Ref: Gatty, 1900 Ref: Yorkshire Architectural Society, Vol XV, Part II, p 239.
