BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The Minster, Halifax

The dial on the south wall declines 5 degrees east. The motto reads: ’True as the dial to the sun altho it is not shone upon’, adapted from the poem ’Hudibras’ by Samuel Butler, 1662. An inscription records wardens’ names Wm Lawrence, Robt Abbott, and the makers Jon{th}n Illingworth and John Sutcliffe ’fecerunt’. The latitude is given as 53 40 16. Shows 6am to 5pm in quarter hours, using XII and IIII. Numerals in line with hour lines and read from the outside. Rounded ’U’ shaped time scale, sturdy surface mounted gnomon with double ’S’ shaped supporters. The dial plate is supported on two corbels.
