BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Mary’s Church, Whitby

The dial is set in a stone frame on the South wall at the top of 199 steps and is canted East to face South. The motto reads "Our days pass like a shadow". Lines & Nos are in relief not incised. Some evidence of missing plaque above dial. Dial surface over painted white. Shows 6am to 6pm in half and quarter hours. Uses XII and IV. Numerals aligned with hour lines. Noon gap. Ellipse around gnomon root. Date obtained from Church material.
