BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Pickering

The dial located above the porch door has, at the top, ’Lat. 54 20 N S. 20 W’ - presumably indicating the declination of 20 deg west. Next the motto: VITA SIC TRANSIT. Then the date ’1817’. At the foot, ’W PUTSEY DELINEAVIT’. 6am to 8pm in Roman numerals using XII and IV; 30 &15min markings. Globe motif at root of gnomon, showing 24 longitude lines radiating from N pole. Gnomon lies along one longitude line. Ref Gatty 1900 p 467.
