BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
Over Sth door. Motto reads: ’Disce Dies Numerare Tuos’ - ’Learn to number thy days’. Signed ’William Watson delin’. Solid gnomon unusually tilted from noon line and supported from the West by arched horizontal supporter. Hole in upper edge forms nodus. White dial plate with black lines. Declination lines for solstices and equinox. Shows 5am to 5pm in half and quarter hours. Uses XII and IIII. Four hole fixing. Dial plate cracked. Inscr on Watson’s tombstone nearby reads: "At this church I so often with pleasure did call that I made a sundial upon the church wall". Seen on York 2001 tour.
