BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Cuthbert’s Church, on S face of tower, Haydon Bridge

The dial is on the church tower, above the south entrance door. Mrs Gatty shows the motto at the top of the dial as ’Non nisi coelesti radio’ (Not save by a ray from Heaven (do I tell the time)), but this and the morning hours are too badly spalled to see now. There is a boss in the centre of top of the dial, shown by Gatty to have originally been a sun face. The dial shows 5am to 4pm in half and quarter hours with upright Roman numerals using XII and IV. The gnomon root is offset to the east to accommodate the hour lines which are full length to a small semi circle at the gnomon root. The dial wa sin need of repair in 2000.
