BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St John the Evangelist’s Church, Lynmouth

The slate dial that we see today on the church porch is a replacement for one which had become extremely worn. Mrs Crowley drew the original dial in 1953 and has managed to convey a good deal of information. In the top corners were the winged heads of cherubs and the motto, "My Times are in Thy Hands" curved above a sun face centred on the gnomon root. Below this was a blank shield. The hours VI - VI were shown with dots between the numerals (? half-hour markers). A decorative cipher indicated noon. The new dial, placed there around 1980, is based on the old one but there are significant differences. The winged heads are of more modern aerodynamic design, the motto is now, "’Tis Time to Seek the Lord", the sun face is above the gnomon root and noon is indicated by a rather small cross. The same hours are shown but with no suggestion of any subdivision. He dial measures 250mmw x 350mmh.
