BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
Canted a little to the East on the church porch is a dial whose quality tells us that it must be by one of the Berry family. This is confirmed by the signature in small letters at the bottom which records that it was made by Jno Berry in 1762. It has the characteristic winged heads in the top corners and below that the motto, "Watch and pray Time steals away". There is a sun face at the gnomon root. The dial shows VI - VI in half and quarter hours and the half hour markers each have a fleur-de-lys. A decorative cipher marks noon. There are seven declination lines marked with the signs of the zodiac and a deeply cut ’W’ gnomon notch provides the shadow which uses these lines to tell us the time of year. The dial measures 500mmw x 600mmh.
