BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Peter’s Church, Bittadon

Even with a map it is not easy to find this church since there is not really a village here and the best approach is by a new broad track leading to Church Farm from which a narrow track on the left allows you to walk to the church. It is worth the effort though, since this is one of the dials made by the renowned Jno Berry and Pevsner, who rarely notices sundials, described this one as "very pretty". It is a 450mm square lozenge with decorative devices in the corners. Above the circular dial plate is the motto, "Memor esto brevis aevi" (Bear in mind how short life is) while beneath it the maker has signed his name. The dial declines East and shows the hours VI to V divided into halves and quarters. There are declination lines labelled with the signs of the zodiac and a notch on the gnomon serves by its shadow to indicate the time of year among these lines. There is a sun face at the gnomon root and to either side of it the date of 1764 is displayed.
