BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St James’ Parish Church on S aisle, Chawleigh

This slate dial is on the South wall of the nave and measures 380mm square. There is no date but it is probably of the 18th century. It is a plain dial showing hours VI to VI divided into halves by decorated lines and, less obviously, into quarters. It lifts itself out of the ordinary by having ’Lat N 50° 54’’ engraved across the top and this is correct for the location. The four randomly placed holes suggest that somebody has been shooting at it.
