This dial near the west entrance is known as the ‘Prince Albert Victor Sundial’ and was erected to commemorate the opening of the International Exhibition of Industry, Science and Art by Prince Albert Victor. It would appear to be purely decorative in intent as it would need a stepladder to read the time! Or was it designed to be read from on horseback? It would seem to have Roman numerals pierced in the equatorial band, read from the outside – another factor making it hard to read the time. There may also be other pierced inscriptions – more information, please.
